Dr. Greg Martin

John Renfro's Story

John Renfro, age 41, works for a printing company.

I had suffered with ugly, painful varicose veins my entire life; I was born with them. My job in a printing company requires that I stand on a concrete floor for eight to ten hours a day. Before my procedure, my legs would get tired and hurt. If I stood up after sitting down for a while, I could actually feel my veins filling with blood.

One day when I was in my mid-thirties, I was playing golf in shorts. One of the other men in my foursome said, "I've never seen varicose veins that bad before." Not long after that I decided to see a doctor.

The doctor said he could strip my veins, but he cautioned me that it would be a gory operation. I would have to spend one week in the hospital, and then one week at home lying flat on my back. Furthermore, he said there was no guarantee they wouldn't come back. His recommendation was for me to live with them for the rest of my life: "You've only got another thirty or forty years anyway."

Fortunately, I heard about Dr. Martin and went to see him. When he looked at my legs, he said that I was one of the top three worst cases of varicose veins he had seen, but that he could help me.

Dr. Martin treated my worst leg first. It took about two hours. I was awake the whole time, and after the surgery I walked out of his office. That was on a Friday. I rested over the weekend and went to work on Monday. A month later, Dr. Martin treated my other leg. There was quite a bit of bruising in both legs, but it cleared up in about a month.

It's been five years since my first treatments, and none of the varicose veins have come back. I can't begin to tell you how much better my legs feel! The circulation is 100 percent better. I'm actually wearing shorts on the beach and on the golf course. There’s no pain at all now. It's unbelievable!

I've had several other sessions to treat my spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Dr. Martin calls me his "poster child" because my legs have improved so dramatically. It's been an extensive process, but I'd do it again in a minute to have the legs I have now!
